Newsflash: My Cannon GL1 arrived (Aug 2001). Yay!
Sony 8mm Handycam
Editing system
I am currently capapable of capture/playback at:
  • 360x270 at 24 frames / sec
I was previously only capable of:
  • 160x120 at 15 frames / sec
However with some tweaks I got past that. See my System tuning for video

DVD resolution and framerates are possible using either a firewire interface card or an LML33 capture card. Unfortunately no consumer grade capture cards have MPEG compression capture support for linux yet.

Looking for the killer deal on the camera of your dreams? Read this first. If I did it would have saved me a few weeks of grief trying to buy my GL1.
